The Basilica of Saint Josaphat, Milwaukee’s only Basilica, required massive interior renovations. The Basilica, originally illuminated with candles, had previously been retrofitted with electric lighting.

Indirect lighting was installed at the upper-dome, mid-dome and all arches. This enhanced the newly refurbished religious murals and helped aging parishioners. All statuaries and altars were accented to highlight their prominence and careful restoration. Polish motifs from the original sacred inscriptions were designed into the custom designed wall sconces.

A theatrical dimming system was installed to introduce more drama into Holy Day and special sacraments as well as weekly mass.

To eliminate unsightly light poles, floodlights were hidden on the rooftops of adjacent buildings to illuminate the exterior of the 200 foot domed structure.

The renovation was a joint effort by the Conventual Franciscan Friars, neighborhood associations, area businesses and the City of Milwaukee. It has helped to revitalize the area and attract investments.
