The transformation of the main entry and interior elevator lobby of One North Dearborn Center has given new life to this early 20th Century Chicago building.

The existing mezzanine has been removed to convert an ordinary eight-foot ceiling to a dramatic 17-foot arched composition. The ceiling is composed of illuminated suspended, segmented custom crafted plaster squares. A full-length mirror located on the elevator walls give the sense of an even larger space. Imported limestones and woods and brushed and etched stainless steel convey the high-tech image of this new high-tech center.

Three-foot tall custom designed wall sconces were fabricated and installed on the interior and exterior limestone clad columns. A bent glass sculpture hangs above each elevator to act as an elevator call indicator light. The sculpture glows green when the elevator controller activates a recessed incandescent ceiling fixture.

Walgreen Corporation

Walgreen Co. Corporate Headquarters Expansion :: Deerfield, IL

The Walgreen Co. was outgrowing their corporate headquarters and needed to add 108,000 square feet of new office space, conferencing and training facilities, dining facilities and executive areas.

After careful study, it was decided that the additional space would be developed on Walgreen’s existing Deerfield campus. To expand on the original site required extensive environmental studies, including a study of the impact that additional parking lot lighting would have on the surrounding area.

Corporate lighting standards were developed for the expansion space. These standards were to be utilized throughout all future Walgreen projects. A programmable lighting control system was designed to help save energy, reduce maintenance and monitor energy usage.
